Bulldogs begin title defense with easy win
Ameryst Alston and LeNeisha Lennon combined to score 43 points as the defending Division I state champion Bulldogs rolled to their 43rd straight win in a Division I sectional semifinal win at Alliance High School.
Alston finished with 23 points, while Lennon scored 20.
McKinley (21-0), which led 59-12 at halftime, also got 13 points from Marquia Turner and 11 from Aaliyah Dotson.
Timken was led by Mariah Mercer’s nine points.
The Bulldogs will play Youngstown East on Saturday at 3 p.m. in a sectional final.

McKinley in Federal League Championship again
Pam Davis earned her 101st win as McKinley’s head coach in the Bulldogs’ 32-point high school girls basketball win in the Federal League tournament semifinals Monday at Memorial Field House.
Ameryst Alston had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead McKinley, which has won 39 straight games. Marquia Turner added 13 points for the Bulldogs. Their work helped Davis improve to 101-17 in her five seasons at McKinley, which includes last year’s Division I state title and this year’s 17-0 record.
The top-ranked Bulldogs advance to Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. league tournament title game against Hoover at Alliance High School.
Macy Byrd led Perry with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Alston leads top-ranked Bulldogs over GlenOak
Ameryst Alston scored a game-high 17 points to lead the host Bulldogs to a first-round girls high school basketball win in the Federal League Tournament on Saturday.
The state’s No. 1 team in Division I has won 38 straight games, though this was one of McKinley’s closer calls of the season. The Bulldogs beat GlenOak by 42 points a week ago in the final league game of the regular season.
McKinley advances to play Perry at 7:30 in a Federal League semifinal game Monday at Memorial Field House.
The Bulldogs got 12 points from Aaliyah Dotson and seven rebounds from Gabby Kendall.
Ashley Rininger led the Golden Eagles with 15 points and 10 rebounds, helping GlenOak outrebound McKinley, 40-30. Katie Gaetano added 13 points and Nancy Osborne had 11 in the loss.

Ameryst Alston poured in a game-high 26 points to lead the host Bulldogs to their 37th straight high school girls basketball win with a Saturday victory over GlenOak.
The No. 1 team in Division I led 41-7 at the half after a stunning 28-point second quarter.
Jasmine Neal added 11 points and LaNeisha Lennon scored 10 for McKinley (15-0, 7-0). The Bulldogs earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Federal League Tournament.
GlenOak got nine points and nine rebounds Ashley Rininger.

LaNeisha Lennon scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the second half to help the Bulldogs win a nonconference high school girls basketball game Wednesday at Memorial Field House.
Top-ranked McKinley (14-0) led by just two at the half, but outscored the Cardinals, 44-21, in the second half.
Ameryst Alston also helped the Bulldogs pull away, scoring 12 of her 20 points in the second half. Aaliyah Dotson added 15 points for McKinley, while Lennon led in rebounds with six.
Canfield was led by Sabrina Mangapora’s 20 points and nine rebounds.

LaNeisha Lennon added 16 points and seven rebounds as No. 1-ranked McKinley (13-0, 6-0) won its 35th straight game.
McKenna Stephens led the Blue Streaks with nine points and four rebounds.

Five McKinley players hit for 10 or more points as the high-scoring Bulldogs remained unbeaten with a league win over visiting Jackson.
Powered by a 30-point second quarter, McKinley led 46-19 at halftime.
Ameryst Alston paved the way for McKinley with 19 points, followed by Gabby Kendall (16), Marquia Turner (11), Jasmine Neal (11) and LaNeisha Lennon (10).
Neal and Kendall grabbed five rebounds to help the Bulldogs, who held the Polar Bears under 10 points in the first, third and fourth quarters.
Paige Hill led Jackson with 12 points and six rebounds.

The unbeaten Bulldogs built up a 54-2 halftime lead en route to beating Buchtel in their home opener at Memorial Field House.
Scoring in double figures for McKinley were Ameryst Alston with 14 points, Gabby Kendall with 12 points and LaNeisha Lennon and Marquia Turner with 11 points each.
The Bulldogs have won 27 straight games.

Bulldogs set wins mark
Ameryst Alston scored 17 points to help the Bulldogs win their school-record 26th straight game, winning big on the road in the Federal League.
The defending Division I state champs had four girls score in double figures. Aaliyah Dotson added 12 points, Gabby Kendall scored 11 and LaNeisha Lennon had 10.
McKinley is off to a 4-0 start, though, it has yet to play a home game nearly a month into the season. The Bulldogs play their home opener Thursday, when Buchtel visits Memorial Field House for a 7:30 game.
