Class of 2010 ...

  • Jeff Richardson
    1985-87; tail back/defensive back.
Jeff left his mark in the McKinley High School football records books when all was said and done after his senior year. He stood third in the all-time rushing standings (with 2,413 career yards); 5th for most yards in a single season (1,170 yards in 1986); 4th for most yards rushing in a game (240 yards on 35 carries vs. Youngstown South in 1987); 10th for most points scored in a season (114) and 3rd for all-time career scoring (194).
Jeff's shining moments came against Massillon as he had touchdown runs over the Tigers that went for 67 yards and 1 yard in 1986, 24 yards and 4 yards in 1987 with his total yards against Massillon in his career, 271 with 4TD's.
1987 AP All-Ohio second team; AP first team All-Northeast Ohio, Repository and WHBC.
    1987 Marion Motley award winner
  • Scott Herrington
    1985-87; quad-captain; center/outside linebacker.
There are no real statistics kept on the defensive side of the ball that is tracked in McKinley history, but how many times does Scott Herrington's name comes up when you think about the best defensive football players to come out of McKinley's long storied history?
Plenty, if you know your Bulldog football. He tied for third in tackles his junior season and at the time that this article was written, his senior number of tackles was unavailable.
1987 AP All-Ohio special mention; 1st team AP All-Northeast Ohio, Repository and WHBC defense. Akron Beacon Journal's defensive player of the year.
1987 Don Scott and Edgar Rip Miller Award winner.
  • Dan Grimsley
    1985-87; quad-captain; tight end/linebacker.
One of the most famous family names in McKinley history adds its sixth member to McKinley's Hall of Fame following Ike, Williard, Glenda, John and Ed Grimsley. Dan lettered for McKinley for three seasons. He caught 21 passed for 271 yards in his junior and senior seasons and loomed large at linebacker. He also handled some PAT's and had interceptions and kick returns...Dan was everywhere for the Bulldogs.
AP All-Northeast Ohio honorable mention; 1st team Repository, Beacon Journal and WHBC defense.
1987 McKinley Adult Booster Club Award winner
  • Troy Jackson
    1985-87; wide receiver/defensive back.
1987 McKinley High School Male Athlete of the Year.
Troy represented McKinley in the Ohio North-South All-Star game. He went into his senior season as the most physical player as he started in the secondary and saw part time duty on offense as a junior.
1987 AP All-Ohio honorable mention; 1st team Beacon Journal, WHBC defense; special mention Repository defense.
1987 McKinley Adult Booster Club Award winner
The 1987 senior class never lost to Massillon, something that had not happened in Canton since 1904. Although McKinley finished 7-3, they did not qualify for the playoffs as only the top four teams made post season play from the region. The three losses that year came by a touchdown or less against Cardinal Mooney, Cleveland St. Joe (who had Super Bowl's XXXI M.V.P. Desmond Howard) and Austintown Fitch.
  • Carey Brown
    1985; tail back/nose tackle.
1985's press book says about Carey..."Outstanding quickness combined with 325 lb bench press. Could develop into a noseman worthy of comparison to some of the finest in McKinley's history."
1985 AP All-Ohio honorable mention; AP All-Northeast Ohio 2nd team defense; 1st team Repository, Beacon Journal defense.
    1985 Dick Kempthorn Award winner.
  • Todd Fisher
    1980; wide receiver/defensive end.
Todd is listed in the 1980 press book as a top Pup prospect for his senior season in which he caught 34 receptions for 481 yards and 3 touchdowns.
1980 AP All-Ohio honorable mention; AP All-Northeast Ohio 2nd team offense; 1st team Repository and WHBC.
1980 Edgar Rip Miller Award winner.
  • Mike Daniels
    1980; offensive tackle/defensive end.
Mike lettered for Perry High School his sophomore and junior years before his transfer to McKinley for his senior season. In the 1980 press book his bio read that he was in the 300 bench club and very coach-able.
1980 AP All-Ohio honorable mention; AP All-Northeast Ohio 2nd team offense; 1st team Repository offense.
  • Carey Cook
    1970; offensive guard/linebacker.
1970's press book says about Carey..."On defense, however, Carey was seen running right in the middle of the action making tackles and teamed up with All-Ohio linebacker Rocco Rich to form the core of the McKinley defense that allowed 70 points in 1969. As a junior, Carey made second team All-City last year. This year he's slated to call the defensive signals."
1970 1st team defense Repository; 1st team Defense at linebacker All American Conference.
  • Dr. James Johns M.D.
James D. Johns M.D. attended Lehman High School , graduating in 1974. He went to the University of Cincinnati (UC) for pre-med graduating Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Biology. In August of 1985 Dr. Johns opened his practice back in his old neighborhood in which he grew up. He wanted an opportunity to give back to the community and to what had become "his" high school since Lehman had closed and merged with McKinley. In 1985 he was given that chance by McKinley head football coach Thom McDaniels, when he was named team physician. Dr. Johns also was awarded the State of Ohio's Top Team Physician Award in 2008 for his dedication to the student athletes at McKinley High School.
